(PLO) – Vietnam’s dream of participating in the third consecutive Futsal World Cup was shattered when they lost to Kyrgyzstan in the Play off semi-finals.

It is not easy for Vietnam’s coach Diego Raul Giustozzi and his team to face Central Asian representative Kyrgyzstan, who defeated Japan 3-2 six days ago. Vietnam lost to Central Asian opponents in the second semi-final of the Play off round to compete for the final ticket to the 2024 World Cup.

In the first semi-final, Afghanistan also created an earthquake by defeating the Iraqi team (top 5 in Asia) 5-3 with an extremely excellent performance.

Thus, this Asian futsal final is considered the rise of Central Asian futsal when Tajikistan has a ticket to the World Cup (to the semi-finals) and the final ticket after the Play off round is a competition between two opponents. Central Asia’s capitals are Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan. Besides, Iran is also a representative of Central Asia (according to the AFC’s geographical division) with Uzbekistan.

Returning to the semi-finals of the 2 Play off rounds between Vietnam and Kyrgzstan, everyone knows the vitality of the match. Coach Giustozzi and his team tried harder than they had, so did Kyrgzstan.

In recent times, looking only at the national level, we can see that Vietnamese futsal has a very careful preparation, but “if we advance 5, the teams advance 7” and thus we can see that it is the superiority of the teams. The new power of Asian futsal, especially previously unknown Central Asian teams such as Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

After 40 stressful minutes Vietnam Two consecutive chases and the beautiful outcome favored Kyrgyzstan when they scored a goal to set the score at 3-2 in the 38th minute. At minute 37, the result was still a 2-2 draw. The two teams refused to accept a penalty shootout and so competed to play Power Play when they had the ball.

However, playing Power Play is a “double-edged sword” and today, Vietnam has “tasted the bitter fruit”. After Vietnam lost the ball, Talaibekov quickly shot a long-range shot into Vietnam’s empty goal and set the score 3-2 in favor of the Central Asian team in the 38th minute.

And so, Vietnam futsal’s dream of attending the third consecutive World Cup was shattered. A arduous and very heavy journey for the Vietnamese futsal team at this Asian tournament with a sad ending.

Kyrgyzstan entered the World Cup ticket with Afghanistan in the play off final.
