On the evening of April 26, Mr. Nguyen Van Be Tam – Chairman of the People’s Committee of Tri Ton district, An Giang – said that the functional forces of Tri Ton district are focusing their efforts on fighting forest fires in Co To mountain. However, accessing the scene encountered many difficulties.

The fire location was determined on a high slope. Large rocks, lots of smoke, exploding rocks and falling from above hinder firefighting work, making it difficult for forces to reach.

“The fire started from dry grass on the mountain. The fire area had no forest, mainly rocks and trees. There were a number of loud explosions suspected to be caused by left over mines, so the authorities approached cautiously.

Currently, military forces, forest rangers and localities are coordinating to carry out remote fire fighting. We have to build a runway to continue work tomorrow morning,” Mr. Be Tam said.

Leaders of Nui To commune added that the unit received a fire alarm from the Military Command of Nui To commune around 10:00 a.m. on the same day, in the Ke Cang Duoc area, Co To mountain. The fire area has a high slope and many large rocks.
