After a regrettable loss to Uzbekistan, the Vietnamese team had to compete in the play-off round to compete for a “ticket” to the 2024 Futsal World Cup. However, coach Diego Giustozzi and his team were eliminated in the first series of matches. lost to lower-rated opponent Kyrgyzstan.

Starting with the group considered to be the strongest, the Vietnamese futsal team dominated their opponents. Nguyen Thinh Phat and his teammates forced Kyrgyzstan to retreat deep into their home field.

The first chance of the match belonged to Nguyen Anh Duy and Chau Doan Phat, but both players unfortunately missed. On the other side of the front line, Kyrgyzstan’s defensive counter-attack was effective.

In the 6th minute, they put the ball into the Vietnamese team’s goal but the goal was not recognized.

Attacking a lot without scoring a goal, the Vietnamese team had to pay a heavy price. In the 9th minute, the Kyrgyzstan team launched a quick counterattack. Thinh Phat’s clearance accidentally created conditions for the opposing player to score from close range to open the score.

The Vietnamese team rose up and attacked strongly. In the 13th minute, from a very good kick-in combination, Nguyen Manh Dung launched a powerful long-range shot that beat the opponent’s goalkeeper and equalized for the Vietnamese team. At the end of the first half, a very favorable opportunity came to Dao Minh Quang after a classy pass from Tran Thai Huy, but he finished very poorly.

Entering the second half, the game did not change much as the Vietnamese team still dominated the field. Unfortunately, the poor ability to handle the situation made Duc Hoa and his teammates pay the price once again. In the 24th minute, the Kyrgyz player passed Thai Huy and fired a classy shot to increase the score to 2-1.

With nothing left to lose, the Vietnamese team rushed forward to attack in search of an equalizer. Coach Diego Giustozzi applied a power-play strategy, playing with a 5-man formation high up.

In the 37th minute, from Chu Van Tien’s pass, Manh Dung cushioned the ball to equalize 2-2 for the Vietnamese team.

Mr. Giustozzi continued to give his students power-play to maintain control in the final minutes. However, the Vietnamese team had to pay a heavy price for their mistake when the match had just over 1 minute left.

Anh Duy’s poor touch on the ball allowed the Kyrgyz player to kick into an empty net to increase the score to 3-2. In the 40th minute, Tu Minh Quang shot from long range and hit the post. The Vietnamese team could not equalize.

The 2-3 loss prevented coach Giustozzi and his team from achieving their goal of participating in the 2024 Futsal World Cup.
