The story was shared by Mr. Bui Van Tinh, 95 years old, veteran of Dien Bien, at the art program “Dien Bien Phu – Longing for the river”, on the evening of April 26.
Each person carried 20kg of explosives
Mr. Bui Van Tinh fought at Dien Bien, Laos battlefield and was awarded the third-class Glorious Soldier Medal, the first-class Anti-American Medal, the second-class Victory Medal, and the Issa-la Medal (Freedom). do) of Laos.
Despite his old age, Mr. Tinh still clearly remembers the year 1954. He was only 24 or 25 years old but he was trusted to be in charge of 30 soldiers at Group 316. The French army built solid underground bunkers and arranged artillery. Because of the support of soldiers and tanks, the soldiers were assigned the task of destroying the tunnel at hill base A1.
He said that when the 1-ton explosive block was placed at the base, the explosive exploded, everyone shouted assault and entered the tunnel to see the enemy dead.
Ms. Phan Thi Bay, 94 years old, a former youth volunteer serving in the Dien Bien Phu campaign, said she was 24 years old at the time and volunteered to transport food, guns and ammunition in Laos. Although she is small in stature, she still carries many bullets for the soldiers every day.
In 1953, the Upper Laos campaign was the fiercest, the enemy destroyed the rear, limited food, but no one was afraid of hardship and sacrifice.
“Bullets avoid me, but I can’t avoid bullets. For the people, for the country, for the Party, we strive, leaving everything behind, “she said.

Dien Bien Phu journey passed down generations
First Secretary of the Central Doan Bui Quang Huy affirmed that the Dien Bien Phu Victory will forever be a brilliant milestone in history and the pride of the Vietnamese people.
It is a spiritual strength, a great source of support and encouragement, leaving many valuable lessons for the entire Party, the entire people, the entire army, especially the younger generation.
According to Mr. Huy, the journey “Dien Bien Phu – River Desire” in recent days is a bridge between the values of history and the nation’s heroic traditions with the new era.
The journey is also a transmission from the older generation with the desire to liberate the nation and unify the country with the younger generation carrying within themselves the honor and responsibility of realizing the aspiration to build a prosperous and happy country. .
On the same evening, the organizing committee of the contest learned about the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory and the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Geneva Accords, awarding written and multiple choice contests online on social networks.
The organizing committee evaluates the entries that demonstrate the diligence and investment of many groups of authors, and the diversity of content and forms of expression such as articles, paintings, poetry, models, videos… In particular, many exams are translated into English, Chinese, Russian or using technology.
A special prize worth 20 million VND was awarded to the author group Doan Xuan Hung – Institute of Design and Ha Van Luyen, Be Van Luan, Department of Transport, General Department of Logistics.
The organizing committee also awarded 5 A prizes, 15 B prizes, 20 C prizes, and 30 consolation prizes.
In addition, there are 5 collective prizes with the most entries receiving 5 million VND/prize.
The General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army coordinated with the Central Youth Union to launch a competition to learn about the traditions of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People’s Army and the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Festival.
