Quan Van Chuan regrets that U23 Vietnam missed out on Olympic tickets

Quan Van Chuan became the ‘hot spot’ of the 2024 U23 Asia quarterfinals between U23 Vietnam and U23 Iraq. The goalkeeper born in 2001 had an unnecessary foul on an Iraqi player in the penalty area, leading to a penalty and subsequently conceding a goal. This is also the only goal lost in the match by U23 Vietnam.

“U23 Vietnam played quite well in this match. However, myself and the midfielder did not coordinate well, leading to a penalty. It was a very unfortunate personal error. The two teams played well, Iraq U23 mainly played long balls, I tried to prevent and make mistakes,” Quan Van Chuan admitted.

In this situation, Van Chuan’s collision with the Iraqi U23 player was considered not too strong. Furthermore, the Iraqi U23 player took a bad step, causing the ball to go out of bounds, but the referee still determined that the U23 Vietnamese goalkeeper committed a foul after checking VAR.

“I’m very sad because the team’s goal was to get tickets to the Olympics but had to stop in the quarterfinals. That makes me extremely regretful,” Van Chuan shared.

The U23 Asia 2024 journey with U23 Vietnam has ended.
