Disbursement of 1 billion VND to support farmers in developing the Binh Lieu arrowroot vermicelli brand

Arrowroot is the main crop of the mountainous district of Binh Lieu. Due to the suitable climate and soil, arrowroot grown in Binh Lieu has quite good quality, low in fiber, high in powder, sweet taste, and mild aroma. Binh Lieu arrowroot vermicelli is produced entirely from arrowroot and has a characteristic fragrant, sweet taste, is crispy and chewy, and does not fall apart after being cooked for a long time.

Binh Lieu Dong vermicelli – the main OCOP product of Quang Ninh province

Growing arrowroot plants does not require high cultivation techniques, so it is very suitable for the farming level of people in the area. Therefore, producing and processing Binh Lieu dong vermicelli has become a traditional profession of local people. In particular, Huc Dong commune has the largest number of households and establishments processing vermicelli in the district. The production of arrowroot and processing of arrowroot vermicelli in the district has contributed to hunger eradication and poverty reduction in the period 2005-2010 and helped many households in Huc Dong, Dong Tam, and Luc Hon communes to become rich in the period 2010-2010. 2020.

Currently, Binh Lieu arrowroot vermicelli is one of the main OCOP products of Quang Ninh province, available at many clean agricultural stores and large commercial centers with prices ranging from 90,000 – 120,000 VND/kg. Binh Lieu arrowroot vermicelli products are packaged and labeled with full information about origin, nutritional ingredients, quality standards, food hygiene and safety, and are trusted and favored by consumers.

To meet customers’ tastes as well as maintain the quality and brand of Binh Lieu arrowroot vermicelli, in recent years, Binh Lieu district has expanded the raw material area for growing arrowroot, supporting people to grow new varieties of arrowroot. At the same time, connect producers with vermicelli processing facilities; Strengthen links in production and consumption of products; expand domestic and foreign consumption markets; Strictly control inputs to manage the Binh Lieu vermicelli brand sustainably.

By the end of 2023, the total area of ​​canna cultivation across the district is about 120 hectares, with canna root output reaching about 4,860 tons. Meanwhile, according to the district’s plan by 2025, the canna growing area is 200 hectares and the canna root output will reach 8,142 tons.

Therefore, to further improve the quantity and quality of Binh Lieu arrowroot brand products, there is a need for capital to support farmers in investing in expanding production scale, investing in technology, lines, machinery, device… From the above reality, the implementation of the project “Linking to expand the planting and processing of vermicelli vermicelli” is very necessary.

Wishing to borrow capital for a long time to develop Binh Lieu vermicelli

On April 22, the Executive Board of the Farmers Support Fund of Quang Ninh province and the Farmers’ Association of Binh Lieu district held a conference to deploy and disburse the project “Linking to expand the planting and processing of vermicelli”.

Accordingly, the Executive Board of Quang Ninh Province Farmers Support Fund in coordination with Binh Lieu District Farmers Association disbursed 1 billion VND from the Provincial Farmers Support Fund to implement the project “Linking to expand cultivation and processing”. making Dong vermicelli” for 10 farmer member households in Huc Dong commune with a project implementation period of 24 months.

At the conference, households participating in the project were also trained and guided by professional staff from the Binh Lieu District Agricultural Technical Service Center on planting, care and disease prevention techniques on canna plants; Instructions on how to harvest and preserve arrowroot.

Thereby, helping farmer members participating in the project gain more knowledge and access to science and technology in planting and tending, contributing to improving economic efficiency and promoting project effectiveness when deployed.

Mr. Luc Van Sang – Chairman of Huc Dong Commune Farmers’ Association shared that in the past, due to low capital, households did not have money to invest in seeds and fertilizers. In addition, due to lack of capital, households do not have the conditions to invest in machinery and production lines, so when grown and consumed, it is very difficult.

After being facilitated by the Quang Ninh Provincial Farmers’ Association to borrow capital from the Farmer Support Fund, households will have the opportunity to expand the scale of canna growing and buy fertilizer. At the same time, households will join together to form cooperatives with the conditions to buy machinery and equipment for production. From there, it can meet the consumption needs of arrowroot roots and produce Binh Lieu arrowroot vermicelli, bringing stable annual income.

Also according to the Chairman of Huc Dong Commune Farmers’ Association, households want to borrow capital for a longer period to have conditions for production and business to repay the loan. At the same time, we hope to receive support from the Farmers’ Association and all levels in terms of production premises, wastewater treatment and consumption and promotion of Binh Lieu arrowroot vermicelli products.

Since the beginning of the year until now, the Farmers Support Fund of Quang Ninh province has supported members and farmers to deploy and implement many projects such as: Shrimp farming using high-tech processes in Van Ninh commune, Mong city. Female; Intensive farming of white leg shrimp in Hai Hoa ward, Mong Cai city; growing Taiwanese guava and pear in Phuong Dong ward, Uong Bi city; raising bees for honey in Vang Danh ward, Uong Bi city; planting ornamental peach blossoms in Quang Minh commune, Hai Ha district…

In the coming time, the Farmers’ Association of Quang Ninh province will continue to promote propaganda and advocacy, helping officials and members better understand the purpose, meaning and importance of building and developing funds; Guide members and farmers to effectively utilize loan capital to increase income.
