Dien Bien is a mountainous, border province, important for national defense and security. During the Dien Bien Phu campaign, under the leadership of the Party Central Committee, President Ho Chi Minh, the Party Committee, army and people of all ethnic groups in Dien Bien province promoted patriotic traditions, contributing human and material resources, Bravely fought and sacrificed, making an important contribution to the Dien Bien Phu Victory on May 7, 1954, which was “famous in five continents and shook the earth”.

70 years after the Victory of Dien Bien Phu, from a pristine land devastated by war, the appearance of Dien Bien today, from urban to rural areas, has changed many things, especially since the beginning of the President’s term. The 14th Congress of the Provincial Party Committee for the term 2020 – 2025 to present. Specifically: 8/18 basic goals and targets have been completed and exceeded; The average economic growth rate reaches 7.77%/year; In 2023, the average income is estimated to reach 42.98 million VND/person/year. Investment promotion activities associated with improving the business environment have seen many positive changes.

Culture, education, and healthcare have been strengthened to meet the needs of intellectual development and quality of life of the people. The whole province currently has 482 educational and training establishments with 209,841 students; The rate of preschools and high schools meeting national standards reached 77.6%; Training quality is always high in the region; There are more than 800 doctors, reaching 12.52 doctors/10,000 people, reaching 32.2 national hospital beds/10,000 people. The average life expectancy of people has increased, reaching 69.6 years.

Social infrastructure is paid attention and invested in synchronously. Many key projects have been completed such as: Dien Bien Phu airport expansion project; Project to build a Martyrs’ Temple at Dien Bien Phu battlefield; Many projects continue to receive attention and promotion such as the Son La – Dien Bien – Tay Trang border gate project; project to develop new urban areas, including an urban area of ​​Vingroup coming into operation right in the center of Dien Bien Phu city. A number of new urban area development projects are continuing to be considered and will soon be implemented in 2024 and 2025.

The National Target Program for New Rural Construction has been implemented comprehensively, substantively, in depth and achieved many results. By the end of 2023, there will be 2 communes in the province meeting advanced new rural standards; 48/115 communes meet and basically meet new rural standards; 66 villages and hamlets meet model new rural standards and 59 villages and hamlets meet new rural standards.
