Inheriting and promoting the role of the “cradle” of industry, Dong Nai is promoting the transition to a green production model in this largest economic sector.

* Shifting towards green production

In the 1960s, Dong Nai had the first industrial park in the country. The early and rapid development of the industry is an advantage for the province to develop its economy, technical and urban infrastructure, create many jobs, and improve people’s living standards. However, because of being ahead, attracting massive investment over a long period of time has caused many challenges, especially in social infrastructure and the environment.

To gradually solve challenges, while promoting its role as the “cradle” of the industry, becoming a pioneer in green production and sustainable development, for many years, Dong Nai has implemented Attract investment selectively, prioritizing projects that use high technology, are environmentally friendly, and are less labor-intensive. Attach importance to developing industrial parks in the direction of ecology, green, and high-tech industry. Support businesses to innovate production lines, equipment and technology applications to improve production efficiency and save energy. Forcing production facilities to strictly comply with legal regulations and provincial requirements on environmental protection…

According to Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee NGUYEN HONG LINH, to achieve the net zero goal there must be change and unity in both thinking and action, both in production, lifestyle and consumption. especially in thinking about planning development paths and strategies. Green transformation solutions must be quantified based on science – technology and innovation. It is necessary to have a set of green classification criteria as a basis for selecting investment projects and mobilizing domestic and international resources to realize green growth goals.

Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Hong Linh said that Dong Nai is pursuing the goal of sustainable development according to the province’s socio-economic development orientation and the Government’s commitment at COP26 and COP28 (26th and 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change). This is shown in the recent 2-term Provincial Party Congress resolution; Provincial planning for the period 2021-2030, vision to 2050 and projects, programs and plans of the province.

Also according to the Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, there are currently thousands of businesses operating in industrial parks (out of a total of more than 53 thousand businesses in the province) and emissions, this is also an object that needs to be a pioneer in change. Apply technology to production to reduce emissions or find solutions to offset these emissions. This is both a responsibility and an opportunity for businesses when participating in the global economic chain. This contributes to improving the competitiveness of the provincial economy, creating beneficial changes for sustainable development.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Vo Van Phi said that green transformation is a revolution that requires breakthrough thinking and action to succeed, especially technological breakthroughs. The province welcomes and looks forward to working with domestic and foreign partners and the business community operating in the area to accompany and support the implementation of investment and sustainable development programs and projects.

For Dong Nai, industry is the field that contributes the most to socio-economic development. This is also the industry that generates the most greenhouse gas emissions, wastewater, and hazardous waste. Therefore, prioritizing the selection and promotion of green production is an important solution to achieve the goals of emission reduction, green growth and sustainable development, contributing to the Government’s realization of environmental commitments. , climate with international.

* Complete green growth policy

In order for industry to continue to be a key sector, leading other economic sectors in the path of sustainable development, in February 2024, Dong Nai issued a project to reduce carbon emissions in Dong Nai province until 2030. , vision to 2050. In this project, the province proposed 4 roadmaps and selected 7 industries and fields (including industry) to reduce emissions. This is the basis for establishing the work that must be done by the government, businesses and people to achieve the goal of reducing emissions and reaching net zero.

In early 2024, for the first time, the province established a Steering Committee for Green Growth in Dong Nai province headed by Acting Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Vo Tan Duc. This steering committee will research and propose to the province directions and solutions to solve important, interdisciplinary issues on green growth; Implement decisions, action plans, and projects of the Prime Minister, the Government, ministries and branches on green growth; At the same time, it is also the unit that evaluates the contents of schemes, projects, plans and directs the implementation of tasks related to green growth of the province…

After having a project and a steering committee, the province invited domestic and foreign experts, scientists, and businesses to “donate” experiences and solutions to the province to achieve the goal of green and sustainable development. .

General Director of Energy Capital Vietnam Company David C.Lewis said that Dong Nai is one of the first localities in Vietnam to implement a green growth plan, this is an advantage in anticipation and has attractive policies. credit sources and technology from foreign investors. The province needs to have specific standards and policies so that businesses, programs and projects investing in the province know what to do to meet green standards. This standard is a carbon credit for businesses to offset emitted emissions, which can be sold or mobilized domestic and international green financial resources. From there, creating new opportunities in developing green, circular, creative and carbon-neutral economic sectors, meeting the needs and expectations of people, businesses and the international community.

Regarding this standard, the province recommends that the Ministry of Planning and Investment soon research and develop a set of scientific criteria for national green classification in accordance with international practices, as a basis for the province to select projects. green investment project; an important foundation for mobilizing domestic and international resources; helps quantify and evaluate progress in implementing local green growth. With this set of criteria, green projects have access to domestic and international green finance sources, preferential policies, and new investment support for green projects.

Along with the solution to transform the green production model, the province has removed the oldest industrial park planning in the country to reduce outdated production technology and limit the risk of environmental pollution to the Dong Nai River. .
