Green agriculture creates a sustainable production roadmap for Dak Nong

--
Many durian garden owners in Dak Nong are switching to organic farming

Mr. Phan Viet Cuong in Dak Wer commune (Dak R’lap district) has over 3 hectares of area specializing in durian cultivation, with good productivity and output for many years. Dak Nong Provincial Agricultural Extension Center chose Mr. Cuong’s orchard as a pilot model for sustainable durian farming.

Mr. Cuong said that since practicing clean and green agriculture, he has been able to control the quality of agricultural products well. It starts with limiting the use of chemicals and chemical fertilizers, including pesticides, herbicides and growth stimulants. Mr. Cuong said, “From the stage of soil preparation to harvesting, I fully record and check every day to promptly trace the origin if there is a problem when using the product.”

Mr. Bui Phu Ton, Director of an import-export company in Dak Nia commune (Gia Nghia city) said green production is an opportunity for state agencies and farmers to open access to the market and develop. sustainable, protecting the environment and human health. Especially in the context of climate change which is having an increasingly obvious impact on the Agriculture sector.

Mr. Ton emphasized: “Agricultural producers need to master and comply with guided agricultural technical processes. Good agricultural practices will bring high efficiency to production as well as protect the ecological environment and meet the requirements of the consumer market.”

Currently, in Dak Nong there are many cooperatives effectively applying organic farming processes, circular agriculture and certification standards. The application of organic production processes has significantly changed the farming practices of farmers. From there, proceed to apply technical advances to create higher quality, cleaner and environmentally friendly agricultural products.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Chuong – Director of the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, many people are now applying organic and circular agriculture to production. However, most of them are still small and spontaneous. Many places cannot concentrate on a large scale and also lack close links, so the effectiveness is not obvious.

Mr. Chuong analyzed: “The reason why many farmers are still indifferent to this type of production is because of high costs and unstable income. In the initial stages of switching to organic agriculture, farmers face a decrease in output. Crop productivity can sometimes decrease by 20-25% compared to normal production, making many people hesitate.”

Besides, local farmers and businesses are still struggling to find outlets for their agricultural products. Quality management still has many limitations, making it difficult for consumers to trust and distinguish between products produced using organic processes and other conventional products.

The use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides will be strictly controlled when farming in an organic, green and clean direction.

Mr. Chuong added that Dak Nong is implementing a plan to transform crop structure to adapt to climate change in the period 2022 – 2025, with an orientation to 2050. On that basis, the province has built plans and master plans on types of crops, livestock, and irrigation works suitable for climate change.

By 2025, Dak Nong province aims to restructure the Agriculture sector. Specifically, the province will gradually transform agricultural development towards efficiency, focusing on quality and high value. By 2030, Dak Nong will develop smart, sustainable agriculture, linked along the value chain with the market and well adapted to climate change./.
