On the afternoon of April 26, the Vietnamese futsal team met Kyrgyzstan in the semi-finals of the play-off round to compete for tickets to the 2024 Futsal World Cup. Before this match, the Vietnamese futsal team was rated higher thanks to its experience of participating in two consecutive World Cups. continued in 2016 and 2021. However, coach Diego Giustozzi’s team encountered countless difficulties against Kyrgyzstan and suffered a bitter 2-3 defeat.
Notably, the decisive defeat of the Vietnamese futsal team came in the final minutes of the match. After equalizing 2-2, coach Diego Giustozzi still asked the futsal team to play “power play” (5 players including the goalkeeper attacking together) and paid a heavy price after Anh Duy’s error.
Sharing after the match, coach Diego Giustozzi took full responsibility for himself. He also admitted his mistake when deciding to play “power play” when the score was tied. The Argentine coach said: “This was a difficult match from the beginning, especially in the first half. Entering the second half, the two teams played balanced, but the Vietnamese futsal team had difficulty finding a way into the opponent’s goal. We had the equalizer, but a mistake at the end of the match helped Kygyrzstan get the winning goal.”
