According to Mr. Le Van Khoa, from the beginning of the year until now, the locality has recorded 5 cases of food poisoning.

The first incident occurred on January 26, at Pham Ngu Lao Secondary School (Ninh An, Ninh Hoa) causing 23 students to suffer from headaches. The reason is that some students buy and sell candy of unknown origin in school. Currently, the province’s Food Safety and Hygiene Department is still investigating the cause.

The second incident occurred at Com Tram Anh restaurant (Nha Trang City) causing 289 people to suffer from poisoning symptoms. The cause of poisoning is due to microbial infection.

The third incident occurred on March 29 at Nguyen Van Troi High School, also in Nha Trang City, causing 12 students to suffer from poisoning symptoms. Before that, these students ate food sold in front of the school gate. Currently, the Department of Food Hygiene and Safety and Nha Trang City People’s Committee are still looking for the cause.

The fourth incident occurred on April 5 at Vinh Truong Primary School and Tran Hung Dao Secondary School as stated above.

The 5th incident occurred on April 9 in To Hap town, Khanh Son district, causing 74 people to have symptoms of food poisoning, including 37 students at To Hap Town Primary School, 15 students at To Hap Secondary School, 22 people’s case.

To date, the Department of Food Safety and Hygiene has concluded that the cause of food poisoning for dozens of students and people in To Hap town is due to microorganisms – Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

Due to the awareness of business households

Talking about food hygiene and safety, Mr. Le Van Khoa said that every year, state management agencies regularly inspect. Furthermore, Khanh Hoa province has clearly decentralized the management role in this field under the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development, Health and Industry and Trade.

Departments and branches regularly inspect, supervise, and train, not when poisoning occurs to conduct extensive inspections.

Regarding the cause of food poisoning, Mr. Khoa assessed that there are some cases where business households intentionally do incorrect things and poisoning still occurs. In addition, with the current hot weather conditions, diseases can easily appear.

According to Mr. Khoa, it is expected that in May, the general inspection of food hygiene and safety in the entire province will end and the Department of Health will have a public report.

After a series of food poisoning cases in the area, chicken products no longer appeared at some food businesses or markets. Since then, consumers have asked the question “whether or not the locality bans the sale of chicken” for review.

Regarding this, Mr. Dinh Van Thieu – Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee said that during the process of directing inspection and control of food safety and hygiene, the locality did not request a “ban on the sale of chicken meat”. According to Mr. Thieu, it is not right for any locality to ban the sale of chicken meat.

Mr. Thieu further explained that, after a series of poisoning cases, in fact there are some places that no longer sell chicken because consumers are afraid. In time, when the food hygiene and safety situation is controlled, the chicken trade will return to normal.
