Stories about the legendary Truong Son Road during the resistance war against the US are being told in the space of the revolutionary relic site House and Tunnel D67, at Thang Long Imperial Citadel, in the exhibition Truong Son Road – legendary Ho Chi Minh Road.

The exhibition was organized by the Thang Long – Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of National Unification Day (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2024); 65 years since the opening of Truong Son – Ho Chi Minh road (May 19, 1959 – May 19, 2024).

Truong Son Road – the obsession of the White House

The exhibition introduces about 100 documents and images about the birth of the “fire line” of Truong Son Road, the strong vitality of the road through war bombs, becoming a miracle and a legend of Vietnamese people in the past. Ho Chi Minh era.

The smiles of young female volunteers participating in opening Truong Son road

The radiant smiles of the young girls who volunteered to pave the way, the hand in hand of the group of girls loading ammunition on the road that had to endure twice as many bombs and bullets as in World War II, and the commander Dong Sy Nguyen sat down with his teammates to find a plan to open a petroleum pipeline through the Truong Son range.

The ground is littered with bomb craters like a honeycomb, the forests are bare of leaves because of toxic chemicals…

Those are the images that move viewers in this exhibition.

And the numbers make viewers feel pain and pity for their heroic but hard-working country.

From 1965 to 1975, the US Air Force dropped over 4 million tons of bombs and ammunition of all kinds on Truong Son Road, double the total number of bombs and ammunition used in World War II (more than 2 million tons).

Yet, the boys and girls of Vietnam, through their flesh and blood, their love for the Fatherland and love for peace, have overcome bombs, bullets, and brutally destructive chemicals, transporting and organizing more than 2 million visits. soldiers and officers coming in and out; more than 1 million tons of goods to the southern battlefield.

Both haunting and proud of viewers is the image of the ground filled with bomb craters after the US Air Force’s destructive carpet bombing.

But on those deadly roads, the Truong Son soldiers’ support convoys continued to move towards the South, their footsteps continued one after another to build peace. So much poetry and music was born from this road.

No bombs or bullets can cut off the road that is a symbol of great patriotism.

Therefore, the White House once considered that all their suffering “originates mainly from this impenetrable trail”.
