An GiangThe fires in Co To Mountain and Dai Mountain in the That Son range have basically gone out, only smoke remains, and the total area of damaged forest has not been counted.

The information was announced by Chairman of Tri Ton District People’s Committee Mr. Nguyen Van Be Tam on the morning of April 27. A firefighting force of about 60 people is extinguishing the smoldering fire and preventing it from flaring up again.

According to reports, the fire on Co To Mountain broke out at noon on April 26 with many explosions from mountain rocks and remaining bombs and bullets. To ensure safety, the firefighting force of more than 150 people had to stop extinguishing the fire in the afternoon of the same day. At night, strong winds caused the fire to flare high on the mountain, lighting up a corner of the sky. By dawn this morning, there were only a few fires and smoke left. Currently, the authorities have not listed the burned forest area.

At the foot of Dai Mountain (about 15 km from Co To Mountain), the fire broke out three days ago, was controlled twice but flared up again due to complex terrain, dry and windy weather. The authorities mobilized more than 220 people with dozens of pickup trucks, water trucks, and motorbikes to transport water up the mountain.

Yesterday afternoon, the fire broke out about 700 meters from the residential area of Luong Phi commune, Tri Ton district. District leaders asked for reinforcements to quickly create a “runway” to prevent the fire from spreading to residential areas. By 10 p.m., the fire was basically controlled and did not threaten residential areas. The fire area on Dai Mountain is estimated at about 4 hectares.

Tri Ton district leaders said that in addition to the burned forest area, no damage to people’s property had been recorded, and the firefighters were safe.
