In this year’s spring-summer watermelon crop, people in Bo Trach district planted nearly 655 hectares, with main melon varieties such as: Apolo 66, Hac My Nhan, Soc My. In addition to Viet Trung farm town, which has a large melon growing area, people in localities such as Ly Trach, Nam Trach, Hoa Trach… have also switched to growing melons.

According to people, this year’s weather is not favorable so the melon yield is not high, reaching about 25 tons/ha. However, from the beginning of the season to the middle of the season, traders come to buy at the field for an average price of 6,000 VND/kg, double the same period in 2023. On average, for each hectare of harvested melons, farmers can make a profit. more than 50 million VND.

In recent days, the price of white-fleshed dragon fruit in Binh Thuan province has been continuously increased by traders to collect products to meet the export demand to foreign markets. Currently, the price of dragon fruit purchased at the garden has increased to about 25,000 VND/kg. Previously, the price of dragon fruit ranged from 17 – 18,000 VND/kg, then increased.

The reason is because supply is scarce, while consumption demand remains stable. With current prices, farmers will profit from 10 – 15,000 VND/kg after deducting costs. However, there are currently few gardens with ripe dragon fruit because this is the end of the lighting season. Furthermore, people have focused on making dragon fruit lanterns before, during and after Tet, so the output of the generations after the lanterns has also decreased.

The Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Station said that the rainfall in Giong Rieng (Kien Giang) is about 25 mm; in Phu Tan (Ca Mau) is about 18.4 mm; at Tran Van Thoi (Ca Mau) is about 23.4 mm. Particularly, the rainfall in O Mon (Can Tho) is about 12.8 mm.

The Southern Regional Hydro-Meteorological Station estimates that in the near future, the Western provinces will see more rain following the changing seasons. However, it is not until the second half of May that the rainy season begins in this area.

This situation has persisted for many years, making the pressure on forest management and protection always heavy, and the risk of encroachment and disputes always high.

Faced with that reality, Nghe An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development proposed to the Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee to consider and direct departments and branches to advise and arrange funding for planting markers and demarcating the boundaries of forest types in the field. Thereby speeding up the process of granting land use rights certificates to forest owners.
