“Face Off 7” – directed and produced by Ly Hai – collected more than 40 billion VND on the first day of release, including early screenings.
According to Box Office Vietnam, an independent box office monitoring unit, on April 26, the film reached more than 4,000 screenings – four times more. Siege: The Punisher, an action movie by Korean actor Ma Dong Seok, opened in theaters on the same day. Current revenue includes two days of sneakshows (early screenings with limited shows) on April 24-25, along with a number of pre-purchased tickets for the coming days.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hai, content director of CGV theaters, said that on April 24, the film became a Vietnamese movie with a record of pre-order tickets – 105,000 tickets. Mr. Nguyen Khanh Duong, founder of Box Office Vietnam, commented that Ly Hai’s work has many advantages to conquer sales milestones during the April 30-May 1 holiday.
The film has no domestic competitors, due to recent Vietnamese works such as The price of happiness, Before love being criticized by experts and audiences for its weak content and poor word-of-mouth effect. On this occasion, the box office was also absent of foreign blockbusters. Part 7 Flip face marks an innovation in Ly Hai’s filmmaking style when focusing on the family – romance genre. The main character is Mrs. Hai (actor Thanh Hien) and her family of 5 children. Her husband died early, and Mrs. Hai single-handedly raised her children to adulthood in poor Lac Duong district (Lam Dong). Growing up, each child left home and settled in far away places, rarely returning to visit their mother.

Ly Hai is one of the most successful producers at the box office, opening up the trend of making franchise films on Vietnamese screens with the series Flip face. Graduating from the drama course of Theater Arts School 2 (now Ho Chi Minh City University of Theater and Cinema), in the early 1990s, he entered the singing profession.
