Police advise large vehicles and long-distance passenger transport to limit travel on national highways 6, 279 and 12 on May 3, 5, 6 and 7.

The 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory took place over two days, May 6-7, in Dien Bien Phu City, Dien Bien Province. Demand for travel and freight transport during this time is expected to increase on National Highway 6, National Highway 279 and 12 routes Hanoi – Dien Bien and vice versa. Therefore, on the afternoon of April 22, the Traffic Police Department said that during the preliminary review, general rehearsal and official program (including May 3, 5, 6 and 7), the Department will restrict vehicles. With large tonnage, long-distance passenger vehicles move on Highways 6, 279 and Highway 12 from Son La, Lai Chau to Dien Bien and vice versa.

In case of serious and prolonged congestion on National Highway 6 and Highway 279 from Hanoi, Hoa Binh, Son La to Dien Bien and vice versa, the Traffic Police Department will divide the traffic as follows. From Hanoi to Dien Bien Phu City, vehicles will follow Noi Bai Highway – Lao Cai – National Highway 4D – Lai Chau City – National Highway 12. From Son La to Dien Bien Phu, vehicles will follow Provincial Highway 106. – Muong Kim commune, Than Uyen district (Lai Chau) – Provincial road 106 – National road 32 – National road 4D – Lai Chau city.

The Ministry of Public Security has requested localities to mobilize on-duty forces to ensure traffic order and safety, and be ready to resolve incidents and accidents that arise. Dien Bien province traffic police will regularly be on duty, warning drivers to keep a safe distance and drive slowly on steep, foggy roads and on exits and entrances to the city.

National Highway 6, more than 450 km long, is the largest and most important arterial route connecting the Red River Delta, midland and northern mountainous areas to Dien Bien Phu City. National Highway 12 is nearly 200 km long, connecting Lai Chau with Dien Bien province. Highway 279 is more than 900 km long, passing through 10 provinces, from Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Lang Son… to Son La, Dien Bien.
