On April 24, Nghe An province organized a meeting with Dien Bien soldiers, youth volunteers, and frontline civilians to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 – May 7, 2019). 2024).

Attending the meeting were 150 veterans, volunteers, and front-line civilians, representing the people of Nghe An hometown who devoted their strength, flesh and blood to create the Dien Bien Phu Victory.

70 years ago, Nghe An was the strong rear of the Dien Bien battlefield. Since February 1954, implementing the general mobilization order to serve the Dien Bien Phu campaign, 5,438 Nghe An young people enthusiastically joined the army.

Opening the way to battle, Nghe An province mobilized 6,600 citizens, contributing more than 1.5 million working days.

Only on the first day of the Lunar New Year 1954, there were 32,000 citizens of Nghe An province, including 2,000 civilians carrying bicycles and thousands of new recruits, volunteer workers, and military technical workers eagerly heading to the front line.

Together with the army and people of the whole country, the army and people of Nghe An made important contributions, making the Dien Bien Phu victory “shocking five continents and illustrious on the earth”.

In October 1953, Mr. Pham Ngoc Hoa (Da Son commune, Do Luong, Nghe An) was only 17 years old. Faced with the request for human and physical support in the resistance war against the French, thousands of Nghe An people enthusiastically volunteered to go.

“My village had 50 volunteers to join the youth volunteer force, but only 4 people were selected, including me. I participated in paving the way, leveling bomb craters, and disposing of slow-burning bombs at Pha Din Pass – the route “The lifeline transporting weapons, ammunition, food, and medicine to the Dien Bien battlefield,” Mr. Hoa shared.

Veteran Nguyen Canh Thin (96 years old, former soldier of Regiment 174, Division 316) recalled: “At that time I was 26 years old, single, determined to leave, very enthusiastic. If I lost, I wouldn’t lose anything.” , I sacrifice but if I win, I will gain the whole country, the Fatherland, the gain is very great.”

Amid countless dangers, hardships, and deprivation, with bare feet and steely determination, the people of Nghe An immersed themselves in the war, contributing to bringing the Dien Bien Phu campaign to final victory.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Hoang Nghia Hieu, Deputy Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee affirmed: “The Dien Bien Phu victory has been recorded in the nation’s history as a Bach Dang, a Chi Lang, or a Dong Da of twentieth century and entered world history as a brilliant victory in breaking through the stronghold of the colonial slavery system of imperialism”.

Deputy Secretary of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee expressed his emotion when meeting and feeling the enthusiastic spirit of going to war from 150 delegates representing Dien Bien soldiers, young volunteers, and frontline workers present here.

Mr. Hoang Nghia Hieu expressed his deep gratitude to the heroes, martyrs, wounded and sick soldiers, generations of self-defense volunteers, and frontline workers who contributed their youth and blood to make the victory of Dien Bien Phu in particular, as well as as resistance wars for independence, freedom and peace for the nation.
