Haaland scored another hat-trick in the FA Cup, just four days after he scored five Champions League goals against Leipzig. At the end of the game, the referee gives the owner a hat-trick of the match ball as usual. It was Haaland’s sixth hat-trick this season, and he gave the ball to teammate Jack Grealish.
Through 37 games for Man City this season, the 23-year-old striker has scored 42 goals in all competitions. He just needs three more goals this season to break the record for most Premier League goalscorers in all competitions in a single season, held jointly by Ruud van Nistelrooy and Mohamed Salah.
In the last two matches, Haaland scored eight goals, a performance of 15 minutes 45 seconds for a goal. He is also the first player to score a hat-trick in the English Championship, FA Cup and Champions League since John Wark in the 1984-1985 season.
The day Vincent Kompany returned to the Etihad as Burnley coach turned into a nightmare, when the away team lost with the same score as a tennis set. After Haaland’s hat-trick, striker Julian Alvarez also scored twice and Cole Palmer scored a goal to seal a 6-0 victory for Man City. This scenario is similar to when Man City beat Nottingham Forest 6-0 in the Premier League on September 1, 2022, when Haaland scored a hat-trick and Alvarez also scored twice.
The knot on the evening of March 18 was removed in the 32nd minute, from the long ball phase of goalkeeper Stefan Ortega for Haaland as a wall. Alvarez picked up the ball and poked a slot for the Norwegian striker to dive down to face the goalkeeper, then pry the ball into the net to open the scoring. Three minutes later, De Bruyne passed the ball down the left border for Foden to rush up and stretch for Haaland to cushion the edge of the wall to make it 2-0.
It started to rain on this goal, and Burnley also broke the game. Kompany’s army played well in the first half hour of the match, but could not withstand the pressure from Man City’s attack, when coach Pep Guardiola used the strongest squad. However, the host had to wait until the 59th minute to score the third goal. Foden’s shot sank diagonally and bounced off the post in the right position Haaland kicked into the net, marking a hat-trick.
