ChinaThe 40-year-old woman quit her stressful job to stay at home to shop and cook with her parents with a salary of $ 570 a month, deducted from the parents’ pension.

After 15 years working for a news agency, a 40-year-old Chinese woman named Nianan decided to quit her job after her parents’ offer to be a “full-time daughter”.

“Why don’t you quit your job? We’ll take care of your finances,” Nianan’s parents said, seeing their daughter increasingly facing high stress from work and having to be on call all the time. willing to work with no time management.

Nianan’s parents offered her a monthly allowance of 4,000 yuan (about $570), from their pension of more than 100,000 yuan ($15,000).

Nianan describes her job now as “a profession filled with love”. Every morning, she spends an hour dancing with her parents and going shopping with them. In the evening, she will cook dinner with her father. In addition, she is responsible for all electronics related matters, works as a driver and organizes one or two trips for the whole family every month.

Although being with her parents is very comfortable, Nianan admits that “her biggest pressure is still wanting to earn more money”. Her parents repeatedly reassured her that “if you find a better job, you can do it. If you don’t want to work, you can just stay home and spend time with us.”

The concept of “full-time daughter” is an alternative for Chinese people who are facing increasing pressure from the competitive labor market and the “996” wheel, which is to work from 9 a.m. until 9 a.m. 9pm 6 days per week.

One of the other options that is growing in popularity is freelancing through the internet. Such options allow people to break free from traditional work constraints and have greater autonomy in their careers.

Some people support Nianan’s decision. “If both parents and children are really happy, why not accept it,” said one net user.

However, not all support or conform to such a lifestyle and work. One internet user objected to Nianan’s choice: “it’s just living off of my parents, aka being free”.

Others said the concept of “full-time daughter” is derived from the term “full-time housewives”, but housewives often do not receive “wage”.
