“The incident was discovered by fishermen going fishing, so they reported it to the authorities. Currently, the People’s Committee of Ly Son District has directed the authorities to coordinate with the border guards of Quang Ngai province and the Quang Ngai Maritime Port Authority. organize search and rescue,” Ms. Huong said.
According to the Quang Ngai Maritime Port Authority, at about 4:00 a.m. on the same day, ship LA-06695 towing barge LA-06883 was traveling from Ky Ha (Quang Nam) to Ly Son (Quang Ngai), on the journey to the coastal area. Ly Son Island was about 4 nautical miles away when an incident occurred causing the barge to sink.
Immediately after receiving information about the incident, many functional forces arrived at the scene and coordinated the search.
By 10:30 a.m. on April 24, authorities discovered 3 bodies near the location of the barge in distress. According to the crew list provided by the Quang Nam Maritime Port Authority, there are 5 crew members on the tugboat.
The tugboat LA-06695 has an engine capacity of 350 CV and the barge LA-06683 belongs to Minh Linh Company Limited.
Currently, Quang Ngai Maritime Port Authority has coordinated with Ly Son H. People’s Committee and Ly Son H. Border Guard Station to carry out search and rescue activities for crew members. In addition, the port authority also notified the Region II Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center to support search and rescue vehicles.
