According to Minister of Transport, Nguyen Van Thang, Standing Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, currently traffic safety violations by motorbikes occur a lot. Therefore, the authorities need to strengthen control and impose fines on this vehicle to improve the driver’s behavior to reduce traffic accidents.

Increase penalties for motorbike violations

Speaking at the National Online Conference summarizing the work of ensuring traffic order and safety in the first quarter and directions and tasks for the second quarter of this year organized by the National Traffic Safety Committee on the morning of April 24, Minister Nguyen Van Thang assessed that cold penalties for cars in provinces and cities, including Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, are doing relatively well. However, other vehicles such as motorbikes and motorbikes do not have the conditions to strengthen supervision and handling of fines, so more research is needed.

Citing the reality of traveling abroad, the Minister said that when the light is green, the driver accelerates immediately and without thinking, but in our country, the driver does not dare to speed up but has to “keep looking” because of this. There are also motorbikes cutting in or running red lights. This violation is one of the causes of traffic accidents, so it is necessary to strengthen control and impose fines on this vehicle.

“Currently, motorbikes are the main mode of transportation for people, accounting for 80-90% of traffic on the road, but traffic safety violations occur a lot; There is still a situation where parents give cars to their children when they are underage and do not have a driver’s license, leading to traffic accidents. Improving the behavior of motorcyclists and improving traffic safety for children is an extremely important task, which will certainly help reduce traffic accidents in the future,” said the head of the Transport sector. Transportation said.

Giving information recently, there have been a series of passenger car fires and tire explosions on the highway, which are incidents with high potential risk of causing traffic accidents and can cause major consequences, therefore, the Minister Nguyen Van Thang requested the authorities to soon determine the cause, share information with the people and transport business owners, and strengthen remedial work.

In the early days of the New Year, there were a number of serious traffic accidents, killing many people, with the initial cause stemming from the awareness of traffic participants.

Affirming that new expressways will review and evaluate the current situation to overcome current shortcomings in traffic organization. According to the Minister, the Ministry of Transport has directed the authorities to implement Immediately implement some solutions to serve better, especially temporary rest stops on highways to serve the people.

“The Ministry of Transport is actively promoting bidding packages to build rest stops on the Eastern North-South Expressway. In just a few days, the temporary rest stops will be operational, providing places to stop, go to the bathroom, and rest for passengers and people, and ask local leaders to pay special attention. Give the best and most practical priority so that rest stops on highways can soon be put into operation,” said Minister Nguyen Van Thang.

During the upcoming April 30-May 1 holiday, the National Traffic Safety Committee requests localities to urgently prepare and immediately deploy solutions according to their functions and tasks, especially solutions for problems that typically occur repeatedly during holidays (carrying too many people, driving at night, driving beyond the prescribed time, speeding violations,…).
