On the afternoon of April 24, the trial for defendant Tran Qui Thanh and his two daughters, Tran Uyen Phuong and Tran Ngoc Bich, entered the deliberation phase. Before the court adjourned deliberations, the defendants were given the last word.
As the first speaker, defendant Tran Qui Thanh thanked the jury and representative of the Procuracy. Defendant Thanh also thanked T17 prison for his encouragement and explanation of guidelines and policies during his detention here.
“The defendant grew up in an orphanage, experienced a life of many ups and downs, many events and had to pay the price. But the defendant always learns and overcomes to set an example for his children as well as his associates. The defendant regrets what happened in this case and is ready to take responsibility for his actions.”
Defendant Thanh also stated that he and his family have worked for decades with the sole desire to contribute to society through budget obligations and create jobs for direct and indirect workers. .
“The defendant and his wife and their children often worked directly with employees 10-16 hours a day. The defendant’s family shares the same mission of wanting to build a Vietnamese corporation that reaches out to the world. Therefore, each member’s needs are maintained at a minimal level, without wasteful or lavish consumption. Profits earned are continuously reinvested to continue working and contributing.
Everyone dies and takes nothing with them. Even though he is 70 years old, the defendant still works because he wants to contribute to the development of the industry. The defendant wishes to leave society proud of Vietnamese branded products and Vietnamese businesses reaching out to the world. This incident does not change the defendant’s determination to fulfill his wishes” – defendant Thanh said.
Mr. Thanh affirmed that he frankly acknowledges mistakes to overcome them, fulfill his wishes and will not give up.
“The defendant would like to thank the agencies, partners, friends, and employees who have always accompanied, encouraged, and not given up during the past time. Everyone has looked at it objectively and clearly determined that this case is not related to the business that the defendant’s family runs.
The defendant is also saddened and grateful to his 70-year-old wife who has not yet recovered from her stroke but still has to take on the responsibility of running the business in extremely difficult circumstances.
The defendant’s children have always worked hard and made an important contribution to the development of the business, just because of the defendant they had to stand here today” – defendant Thanh expressed.
For his part, defendant Tran Ngoc Bich also thanked the Procuracy and the Jury for analyzing him and realizing his wrongdoing, and at the same time thanked the Investigation Agency for arranging time to run the company during the case.
“The defendant’s father often said that girls should choose the easy path. However, living is contributing to society and the country, living just enough because death brings nothing with you. Both the defendant and Ms. Tran Uyen Phuong invited foreign experts to build strong Vietnamese businesses.
The defendant regrets his mistake, this is an opportunity for the defendant to grow up. I hope the jury will consider a reduction for the defendant, his father and sister” – defendant Tran Ngoc Bich presented.
Having the last word, defendant Tran Uyen Phuong expressed regret for his mistake. Uyen Phuong also mentioned that she is the first author and business to tell the story of a Vietnamese brand abroad, to inspire Vietnamese businesses.
“During the 12 months of detention, the defendant had many lessons in life, went through emotional ups and downs, and questioned himself a lot” – defendant Phuong said.
Defendant Phuong also hopes the jury will consider a lighter sentence for the father and son.
