The ‘smoke screen’ tactic helps Russia surpass Ukraine’s reconnaissance UAVs

--

According to The Drive, recently, the Russian army used “smoke screen” tactics on the Luhansk front line to protect soldiers and important assets from attacks from Ukrainian artillery and UAVs.

In videos published by Russian media, the country’s army used TDA-3 military trucks to create thick smoke screens in the village of Belogorovka. These smoke screens then merged into a large cloud, covering everything in sight.

“Smoke camouflage made it impossible for Ukraine to use reconnaissance UAVs to determine our location. In this way, Russian forces approached and captured a number of important enemy bases,” Russian media said. said.

Military experts revealed that the TDA-3 is a weapon mounted on the KamAZ-5350 truck chassis, first used by Russia in 2016. This military vehicle includes a tank containing a mixture of smoke and control device, requires 2 soldiers to operate.

TDA-3 is said to only need 5 minutes to be ready for operation, and can produce 13kg of smoke/minute. Each fully loaded tank can produce smoke continuously for 6 hours.

In fact, this is not the first time Russia has used the “smoke screen” tactic. In early January this year, TDA-3 trucks were also deployed to the Crimean peninsula to protect important positions against the risk of air strikes from Ukraine.
