On the morning of April 25, the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City sentenced Mr. Thanh (71 years old, former Director of Tan Hiep Phat Trading and Services Co., Ltd.) and his two daughters Tran Uyen Phuong (43 years old) and Tran Ngoc Bich (40 years old) ).
According to the case file, from 2019 to 2020, Mr. Tran Qui Thanh and his two daughters through brokers lent money to many people at an interest rate of 3%/month. The defendants required the borrower to sign a contract to transfer assets and shares of the project and commit to reselling to hide the nature of the loan.
When the borrower fully fulfilled its obligation to repay principal and interest under the original asset resale agreement, the defendants gave many reasons for not returning it.

Using this method, Mr. Thanh and his father carried out 4 cases of property appropriation, with a total value of more than 1,048 billion VND. In particular, Mr. Thanh appropriated two projects Minh Thanh and Nhon Thanh of tycoon Dang Thi Kim Oanh; 29 plots of land were separated from plot number 452 of Mr. Nguyen Van Chung, 4 plots of land of Mr. Lam Son Hoang and 2 plots of land of Mr. Nguyen Huy Dong.
During the trial, Mr. Thanh and his two daughters admitted that their relationship with the victims was to borrow property. At the same time, the defendant would like to accept all judgments given by the court.
In the impeachment part, the representative of the Procuracy, after assessing the level and nature of each defendant’s crime, asked the jury to sentence Mr. Tran Qui Thanh to 9-10 years in prison, Tran Uyen Phuong to 5-6 years in prison and Tran Ngoc Bich was sentenced to 4-5 years in prison for abuse of trust and appropriation of property.

Defending the defendants, the lawyer presented a series of extenuating circumstances, asking the jury to consider allowing his client to enjoy the leniency of the law and return soon to continue running the business and contributing to society.
Speaking their last words, Mr. Thanh and his two daughters expressed regret for their actions and hoped the court would consider reducing the punishment.
