“3 bodies have been confirmed by family members, 1 body has not been identified. The deaths do not match the list of registered crew members. The unit that owns the tugboat and barge has not been able to accurately determine how many people died. Many crew members when the barge was in trouble made searching very difficult” – a representative of the Quang Ngai Maritime Port Authority informed.

The crew members confirmed dead include: Mr. Le Van Song, Dang Van Nhung, Dang Van Uoc – both living in Long Huu Dong commune, Can Duoc district, Long An province.

Compared to the initial registration declaration of the chartering unit with Ky Ha port authorities, the crew members who died did not match the declared names.

Working with relevant units, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan, representative of Minh Linh Company Limited – owner of the sunken tugboat and barge, said that the contract only hired Mr. Pham Van Hiep as captain. As for Mr. Hiep calling two more people to go on the ship, the company does not know because the captain may have called himself and the company does not know whether these people actually went or not.

“We only heard of 5 people on the ship, but we don’t know exactly how many,” Mr. Tuan said.

According to Ms. Pham Thi Minh Ly, Director of Ly Tuan Co., Ltd. – the unit that charters ships and barges for transportation, the contract agreement between her company and the ship owner shows that the ship owner reported that there were 3 people on the ship and barge. . According to regulations, there must be 5 people to operate a barge, including captain, chief engineer, sailors… Therefore, the company hired 2 more people, Mr. Bui Minh Tri (sailor) and Vo Van Nhieu (sailor) mechanics) to operate barges and tugboats.

Present at the forward command post after the incident, Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Xuan Sang requested units to coordinate with local authorities to create favorable conditions and provide maximum support in terms of means to transport boats.
