On April 25, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Jens Stoltenberg warned that China must stop supporting Russia’s war in Ukraine if it wants to have good relations with the West, according to the news agency. Reuters.

According to Mr. Stoltenberg, China’s help is important to Russia’s war effort because Beijing is boosting Russia’s war economy through sharing high-end technologies such as semiconductors.

“Last year, Russia imported 90% of microelectronic equipment from China, which is used to produce missiles, tanks and aircraft. China is also making efforts to provide Russia with the ability to improve satellite images,” Mr. Stoltenberg said.

The head of NATO warned that China cannot have both good relations with the West and cooperation with Russia.

“China says it wants a good relationship with the West. At the same time, Beijing continues to cause the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War Two. They cannot have both,” Mr. Stoltenberg added.

Mr. Stoltenberg also warned Western allies not to be as dependent on China as they were on Russia.

“In the past, we made the mistake of depending on Russian oil and gas. We must not repeat that mistake with China. Depending on their money, raw materials, and technology will make us vulnerable” – NATO Secretary General warned.

Since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the US and its allies have frequently accused China of supplying weapons to Russia and have punished many Chinese individuals and entities for this issue.

Beijing has repeatedly denied the above accusations.
