The Indonesian fans used stones to attack the truck carrying the Thai team right before the match at the AFF Cup 2022.
The match between Indonesia and Thailand is considered the “final” of Group A, AFF Cup 2022. About an hour before the ball rolled, the bus carrying the visiting team was moving to Bung Karno Stadium when it was surrounded by Indonesian fans.
Some home team fans used bricks and stones to break the glass of the car carrying the Thai team. According to Thai PBS, these fans even kicked the door of the car and shouted and set off firecrackers.
After the intervention of security forces, the truck carrying the Thai team escaped from the chaotic crowd and still made it to the field. Although no players were injured, the visiting team members had a heart attack.
The female team leader of Thailand Madam Pang once warned about the pressure that the home team’s audience created on the Gelora Bung Karno field. However, the Thai team did not expect them to be “greeted” so soon.
According to the original schedule given by AFF, the Indonesia vs Thailand match takes place at 19:30 on December 29. However, due to security concerns, this encounter was pushed up earlier, at 16:30.
After the fans attacked the truck carrying Thailand, the Indonesian Football Federation could receive a fine. In the worst case, the Van Dao team may not be able to play at home or play on the field without an audience.
