In javelin throws, the athlete will normally gain momentum by running quickly in the designated area. But Adrianna Sulek mostly stood in place and danced. The 23-year-old female athlete brought her left hand forward, instead of lowering it while running to limit wind resistance, and swung it like she was conducting a symphony orchestra.

The javelin throw made viewers feel unusual, but brought the third best: 41.63 m. Sulek only failed to calculate the total of the heptathlon. She finished fourth with 6,672 points, 83 points behind American bronze medalist Anna Hall.

The audience showed interest in Sulek’s javelin throw. Above Twitteraccount @Greg James wrote: “OK, now javelin throwing has become my favorite sport”.

“I think it’s a new move in the art of javelin throwing,” another member speculated. “Perhaps she conducts an orchestra in her spare time.”

Many people also mention Jack Sparrow, the fictional character played by actor Johnny Depp in the series Pirates of the Caribbean. “Jack Sparrow’s daughter is aiming for the Olympics,” one account commented.

The event in Oregon, USA was Sulek’s first world championship. The fourth place just won is also a step up for the Polish athlete compared to the Tokyo Olympics – where she ranked 16th. Before that, Sulek’s best achievement was the gold medal at the U23 European Championship 2021.
