Muay fighter dies from a fatal blow

ThailandPanphet Phadungchai, the 2019 world amateur Muay champion, died after being hit by an opponent’s elbow.

Panphet, whose real name is Sarayut Klinming, was in a coma for nine days after being knocked out by French boxer Anthony TF at Thupatemi Gymnasium, Pathum Thani province on July 14.

Anthony turned around, elbowing Panphet in the head in round 5. This attack caused the Thai boxer to suffer a traumatic brain injury. Panphet was in a coma when he was taken to B Care Hospital. Here, despite the efforts of the doctors, the 25-year-old boxer could not regain consciousness and took his last breath on July 23.

Panphet’s death shook the martial arts world. The world Muay Thai community criticized the tournament for not carefully preparing medical support options for athletes, and called on the sport’s governing body to tighten regulations related to the life safety of boxers. – which seems to be being taken lightly.

The president of the Thai Muay Federation Samart Maluleem said that the blow that led to Panphet’s injury proved that Muay is a dangerous martial art. But similar accidents can also happen in other martial arts.

The elbow strike left Panphet in a coma and died

The elbow strike in the battle of Muay on July 14 caused Panphet to fall into a coma and then die.

Nattawut Ruangwes, a former politician from the Thai Ministry of Sports, emphasized that Panphet’s death is a great loss to the world Muay community. He also offered to help the boxer family through the National Sports Development Fund. Phanphet is the breadwinner in the family, and his wife has just given birth.

Panphet won a gold medal at the 2019 World Amateur Muay Championship and a silver medal at the 30th SEA Games in kickboxing.
