Viettel changed its name, the name The Cong was officially ‘revived’

The ceremony to announce the decision to change the name of Viettel Football Club to The Cong – Viettel Football Club was held on the afternoon of November 21 in Hanoi. Fitness Club – Viettel become the official name right in the 2023/24 season.

The return of the name The Cong in the professional football tournament is the Ministry of National Defense’s recognition of Viettel’s efforts, determination and fundamental and methodical way of playing football during the past time.

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nghia – Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, emphasized: “The Cong – Viettel Football Club continues to promote the tradition and spirit of not being afraid of hardship that generations of The Cong Club have diligently cultivated over the years. Build more strongly the The Cong playing style, The Cong spirit, always play with the spirit of “Determining to fight, Deciding to win”, the spirit of “winning without arrogance, losing without discouragement”, contributing to the The Cong brand – Viettel reaches a new level.”

The Cong is a name that is no longer strange to fans, especially to fans who love the team. This name is considered a “monument” and also the pride of Vietnamese officials, soldiers, and sportsmen.

In the past, The Cong won 13 Northern A Division championships, later won the V-League professional football tournament 5 times, and was once considered a “miniature national team”.

Generations of former famous players such as Truong Tan Buu, Nguyen Trong Giap, Nguyen The Anh, Nguyen Cao Cuong, Tran Van Khanh, Nguyen Hong Son… have delighted generations of fans.

The current generation, the Army football team owns many stars playing for the national team, including Nguyen Hoang Duc, Bui Tien Dung, Nguyen Duc Chien, Nguyen Thanh Binh, Khuat Van Khang…

After changing the name to The Cong – Viettel, coach Thach Bao Khanh and his team are even more motivated and determined to complete the goal of entering the top 3 V-League and reaching the 2023/24 National Cup final.
