The international website surprised everyone by valuing Vietnam’s U23 squad higher than Iraq’s U23

With a total squad value of 2.19 million euros (about 59.5 billion VND), U23 Vietnam ranked 10th out of 16 teams participating in the 2024 U23 Asian Championship. What is quite surprising is that Transfermarkt valued the U23 Iraq squad low. more than U23 Vietnam – only 1.98 million euros.

In terms of achievements, Iraq U23 is among the few teams that have ever won the U23 Asian Championship. They also played relatively stably, reaching the quarterfinals in 4/5 appearances. The main reason why the total value of the former champion’s squad is not high is because there are many players who have not been valued by Transfermarkt.

More than half of Iraq’s U23 squad playing domestically or on the youth team team in Europe is still at a valuation of 0 euros. With only 9/23 players being valued, the total value is 1.98 million euros, an average of 220,000 euros/person. In the future, when Transfermarkt updates its parameters, it is expected that the value of the entire Iraq U23 squad will increase significantly.

In contrast, most U23 Vietnamese players have had their value determined by Transfermarkt, except for the two cases of Minh Quang and Manh Hung. On average, the valuation of Vietnamese U23 players is 104,000 euros/person.

Put on the comparison table, the two players with the highest valuations for Iraq U23 are Muntadher Mohammed (350,000 euros) and Ali Jasim (300,000 euros). While for U23 Vietnam, it is Bui Vi Hao (200,000 euros) and Dinh Bac (175,000 euros).

Ali Jasim is a very familiar name to Vietnamese fans. Even though he is only 20 years old, this midfielder has become a pillar of the Iraqi team. Ali Jasim participated in both of Iraq’s recent victories over Vietnam in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the Asian Cup. Even in the 3-2 win that took place in January 2024, the 20-year-old midfielder also had 2 assists.

Meanwhile, quite a few Vietnamese U23 players played in the 0-3 loss to U23 Iraq at the 2023 Doha Cup friendly tournament such as Van Chuan, Duy Cuong, Van Truong, Van Khang, Minh Khoa.
