English football was shaken: Two stars were arrested on the field for rape accusations

According to sources from The Sun newspaper (UK), two players playing for the same club in the English Premier League were rushed into the stadium by police and arrested right after the match last weekend. Currently, the identities of the two players as well as the club are still kept secret.

The two suspects, both 19 years old, were detained overnight and underwent police questioning. One person was investigated for rape, the other was accused of assaulting and assisting his teammates to commit rape.

Both players have been released on bail pending investigation. The rape is said to have occurred last Friday (April 19). The victim contacted police a few hours later and officially filed a complaint.

A police department spokesman said: “Police arrested two men after receiving a report of a rape. One was accused of assaulting and assisting his comrades in committing the rape. The remaining person is being investigated for rape. Because this issue is within the scope of the police investigation, the club will not comment at this stage.”

It is unclear whether the two arrested players will be suspended from football activities pending the results of the investigation.

This is not the first time the Premier League has been shaken because a player has been caught up in prison for assault and rape. Previously, Man Utd striker Mason Greenwood was charged with attempted rape, assault and coercive behavior in October 2022. After that, this young star was suspended from training and competition by Man Utd.

The lawsuit was later canceled in February 2023 because the victim proactively withdrew. Mason Greenwood has denied all allegations.

After that, Mason Greenwood’s future was at a standstill. In September 2023, this player was pushed to Getafe to play on loan. Despite impressing in Spain this season, Mason Greenwood is not too eager to return to Man Utd.

Previously, former Man City defender Benjamin Mendy also lost his career despite being cleared of rape charges after two trials last year. Currently, he returns to France to play for Lorient.
