Liverpool are looking for a new coach since Jurgen Klopp revealed he will step down at the end of the season. Recently, Arne Slot revealed that he really wants to succeed the German’s strategy and believes that the Red Brigade will agree to an agreement with his current club, Feyenoord.
Slot said: “I want to become the new coach of Liverpool, my decision is very clear. It’s no secret that I want to go to Liverpool.
“Feyenoord and Liverpool are negotiating to make a final decision and I’m waiting to see what happens. I am very confident while waiting for the clubs to reach an agreement.”
Feyenoord is ready to let Slot leave but has not yet reached a compensation agreement with Liverpool. The Merseyside club have set a price tag of around £8.5m but they may have to increase that figure to the £10m mark. If a deal is agreed, Slot could be confirmed as Liverpool’s new manager within the next 48 hours.
Slot guided Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title last year and also helped the club win the Dutch Cup last weekend.
The 45-year-old strategist has a 64% winning record when leading Feyenoord. Before that, he impressed at AZ Alkmaar, averaging 2.11 points per game in the Eredivisie – the highest of any coach in the club’s history.
Liverpool’s recruitment of Slot came after the port city team failed to attract Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso and Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim. The Red Brigade finally surprised everyone with the name from the Dutch national championship.
The pressure on Slot after coming to Liverpool will be huge. The reason is because Jurgen Klopp had a successful 9-year reign and is considered one of the greatest coaches in the team’s history.
