The Vietnamese futsal team lost 2-3 to Kyrgyzstan in the play-off match to qualify for the Futsal World Cup. The third goal in the last minutes came from the Vietnamese team playing power-play.
“In the final minutes of the match, Kyrgyzstan played power-play first. I can actively defend, but I think about arranging a good situation to score a goal. When I took risks and made mistakes, the team paid the price. In this subject, that is normal. I’m sorry I couldn’t wing”, Mr. Giustozzi shared.

In this match, the Vietnamese team pressed their opponents but was constantly behind. Nguyen Manh Dung scored both equalizers for the Vietnamese team. The defeat caused coach Giustozzi and his team to be eliminated, thereby failing to achieve their goal of qualifying for the Futsal World Cup for the third consecutive time.
“In the first half we played better but could not go into the break with a more favorable result. In the second half, both sides played evenly. It was difficult for the Vietnamese team to find a way into the opponent’s goal. I decided to play power-play at the end of the match to find the equalizer. Then, the team made a mistake and allowed Kyrgyzstan to score the winning goal“, Mr. Giustozzi further shared.
The Argentine coach assessed that at this year’s Futsal Asian Cup, many teams were stronger, even better than Vietnam.
“It took me 2 years to prepare and help the Vietnam futsal team change. However, other teams only take 2-3 months of concentration to reach our level. That is something special and we have to change our thinking“, Mr. Giustozzi commented.
The Vietnamese futsal team missed the opportunity to participate in the 2024 Futsal World Cup. Coach Giustozzi said: “We came here to qualify for the World Cup. That is the goal and challenge in each match. The team and I did our best. At this moment, it is difficult for me to share my feelings. After today, I will have time to think about what needs to be improved in the Vietnam futsal team“.
