On the morning of November 18, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Binh – Director of the Region IV Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center said: At 11pm on November 17, the ship SAR 272 and the rescue force brought the injured crew member. Greek labor accident to the port of the Center for Maritime Search and Rescue Coordinating Area IV safely.
Crew member Bako Konstantinos (born 2000, Greek nationality) is a mechanic on the bulk carrier KATE (Marshall Islands nationality) and broke his right leg during work.
The captain of the KATE ship reported an emergency to the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center, requested medical support and brought the crew in distress to Nha Trang for emergency treatment. The vessel is currently sailing from Australia to China 108 nautical miles southeast of Nha Trang.
As soon as the information is received, the Center keeps in regular contact and directly works with the ship to update the patient’s condition and guide the first aid measures.
The ship SAR272 and the rescue team were dispatched to the sea to perform the task. At 23:00, the ship SAR 272 brought the injured crew of the KATE ship to the port of the Center of Region IV safely and handed it over to the emergency forces.
Earlier at 11 am on November 17, the SAR 272 ship and the rescue force of the Center had just successfully rescued the crew member of the EMIL ship, Mr. Sokolov Andrei (Russian nationality) who was injured in the hand during work.
After 1 day of efforts, the functional forces have continuously successfully rescued the crew members who were injured in labor accidents of 2 foreign ships to Nha Trang for timely treatment.
