In the story by the newspaper South China Morning Post Posted on November 21, the woman and her husband – identified only by the name Nika – were separated for 3 years because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

She met her husband, surnamed Ouyang, 38, in China in 2018 while both were working in the music industry.

The couple got married in April 2019, then went to Russia in September of that year to visit Nika’s mother. Ouyang soon returned to China, and Nika planned to follow a few months later.

However, her trip was delayed until this year because China introduced travel restrictions after the Covid-19 outbreak.

The couple finally reunited at the end of October this year in Nanning in an emotional reunion.

“We both cried and hugged each other for five minutes,” Ouyang said. “I am very happy and extremely happy. But tragedy happened on the way home. We were driving on the highway when she suddenly had trouble breathing.” Ouyang rushed Nika to a nearby hospital, but doctors diagnosed her with a cardiac arrest due to a pulmonary embolism and there was no hope of recovery.

Not giving up, Ouyang drove Nika to a larger hospital in Nanning, about 150 kilometers away. But luck did not smile on the couple…

Before her death, Nika agreed to donate organs.

Nika’s story touched many Chinese social media users. They wish Nika rest in peace and say she will live forever in everyone’s mind.
