CanadaActor Ryan Grantham, 24, was sentenced to life in prison for shooting his mother to death in his home.
Follow EW, on September 21, the British Columbia provincial court sentenced the actor to second-degree murder with a life sentence, without parole for the next 14 years. Prosecutors said Grantham confessed to shooting and killing his biological mother, Barbara Waite, 64, from behind while she was playing the piano at her home on March 31, 2020.
The day after killing his mother, Grantham carried three guns and a bottle of petrol bombs in his car and set off to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s home with an assassination attempt. However, the actor changed his mind and surrendered at a police station in Vancouver. Authorities said Grantham suffered from severe depression and planned a serial murder. Grantham received psychological treatment during his incarceration.
Ryan Grantham was born in 1998 in Canada. The actor started his acting career at a young age and participated in many projects in Hollywood. The actor was first known for his role as Rodney James in the hit movie Diary of a Wimpy Kid, grossing nearly $76 million at the box office. Prior to that, Grantham played a supporting role in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus by Johnny Depp.
Grantham’s last role was in the series Riverdale of the CW 2019. In recent years, the actor also appeared in a number of hit TV series such as Supernatural and iZombie.
