Bui Huyen Thao My, whose stage name is My Carol, was born in 2001 in Vietnam. The girl’s father is an Australian lawyer, and has been learning to sing since she was 3 years old. Thao My’s family is not in the arts industry, but knowing her passion, her parents created many conditions for Thao My to satisfy her passion for singing.

Before coming to The Voice KidsThao My participated in the contest Do Re Mi 2008 and many large and small singing competitions at the school also achieved many notable achievements. Outstanding with her singing talent, Thao My is always a familiar face in most extracurricular activities and music playgrounds at her school. Champion Award AHS Idol 2013 once named Bui Huyen Thao My. She has also had many shows on big stages and released quite a few music videos at a very young age.

Since childhood, Thao My has learned to sing and participated in many art competitions.

In 2013, Thao My enrolled in the program The Voice Kids. After she performed the song Set fire to the rain of idol Adele with her strong voice, the young female singer received a lot of applause from the audience and all four demanding coaches. The Voice Kids’ music director, Phuong Uyen, also had to stand up and happily clap and cheer for her contestants even though she was the one who guided and taught each contestant.

For 9 consecutive years, Thao My has had good academic results in both the Vietnamese program and the international English program. She is also one of the most outstanding faces of the competition Got talent 2016 organized by the school and received a 50% scholarship of tuition for the 2016-2017 school year.

In 2021, My Carol made an impression when releasing the song Roughi composed by myself. She and Bang Khanh Tung Lam had the opportunity to collaborate to perform this song. The song was born one afternoon, when My Carol was sitting in the high school yard waiting to be picked up. In just 20 minutes of writing, she had the melody of the whole song. As for the lyrics, it took nearly a month to complete satisfactorily. Besides the song StopCarol also composed many other songs that are loved by young people such as: Put it away, damaged goods, don’t rush, who’s left, so keep it, take care,…

Not all of My Carol’s musical products are written from personal stories or experiences. Mostly, her inspiration for writing is based on imagination. When composing, she often puts herself into the character, so each song and each role that My Carol brings to the audience is good and interesting. In music, she is deeply influenced by US/UK music. Especially the music of many famous artists such as: Charlie Puth, Keshi, Billie Eilish…. But perhaps the artists that influenced her the most were Vu Cat Tuong and Adele.

In 2022, My Carol left an impression with her “memorable” voice and beauty in episode 1 Big Song Big Deal. She brought a songc Don’t Hurry composed by me and received compliments from 2 judges in the casting round. Talking about her biggest breakthrough in both art and life, she said it was registering for casting B.I sing the best version Big Song Big Deal.

Thanks to the program, Thao My is known to many people for her good composing ability. Regarding her fate in composing, Thao My once said: “I have been passionate about singing since I was young and thought about why I don’t create my own song. I took the Do Re Mi exam when I was 8 years old and also started writing music from then on, but the lyrics From then on, it was very silly. It wasn’t until I was 17 that I was able to complete a composition. I wanted to convey energy, stories or inspiration into lyrics and songs and pass them on to listeners.”

Participating in many music competitions and programs but still not achieving certain achievements, Bui Huyen Thao My shared that she was heartbroken. The young female singer believes that she is quite miserable and will try harder to let the audience know: “It would be a lie to say I’m not sad, but to be honest, I felt sad and thought about why I was having such a hard time. However, in the end, I just thought that maybe it was because I was not good enough at that time, not mature enough to achieved achievements and I had to participate in those competitions and programs, had to stumble and fail, to have Bui Huyen Thao My today.”

Having all the potential to become famous but still struggling, this sometimes makes Thao My feel sad.

Although she has not really broken through, her talent is recognized by many professionals and audiences.

Perhaps this year, My Carol will really pop up if it finds a song that better suits the audience’s tastes.
