In the latest developments in the Nord Stream case, the former commander of one of Ukraine’s special operations units, Roman Chervinsky – the character described by the Washington Post as the coordinator of the Nord Stream and Nord gas pipeline explosions. Stream 2, reported missing, TASS reported on April 22.

Weekly newspaper Dzerkalo Tyzhnia (Mirror of the Week) quoted defense lawyer Konstantin Globa as saying that April 19 is the expiration date of Chervinsky’s detention at the pre-trial detention center. However, the court refused to consider Chervinsky’s case.

The court in Ukraine also did not set a date for Chervinsky’s next trial. According to the defense lawyer, his client continued to be taken to detention camp No. 14 in Ukraine before trial. Even Chervinsky’s wife and Chervinsky’s defense attorney were not allowed to see this man in detention.

Dzerkalo Tyzhnia’s source said that Chervinsky’s defense lawyers claim that their client was kidnapped.

Chervinsky was arrested in April 2023 on charges of abuse of power. Investigators said Chervinsky decided on his own, without asking permission from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) or military intelligence, to recruit a Russian pilot with the goal of capturing a Russian military aircraft. .

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said that Ukraine’s plan to recruit pilots was discovered by Russian counterintelligence, leading to attacks on several Ukrainian military facilities, including the airport. Kanatovo of Ukraine.

Due to data leaks about the deployment of Ukrainian personnel and equipment at Kanatovo airport, the Russian attack killed the military unit commander, injured 17 soldiers, and destroyed 2 fighter jets. and the runway was damaged.

A few months later, in November 2023, the Washington Post quoted Ukrainian officials and sources in Europe pointing out that Chervinsky was the coordinator of the plot to explode the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines.

According to the American daily, Chervinsky was responsible for logistics and support issues for a group of six people who rented a yacht and used deep-sea diving equipment to attach explosives to an underwater gas pipeline connecting Russia and Germany.

Nord Stream, majority owned by Gazprom, is the largest gas pipeline bringing Russian gas to Europe via Germany. Nord Stream 2 is a gas pipeline running parallel to the Nord Stream pipeline under the Baltic Sea, running from Russia to the Baltic coast of Germany. Nord Stream 2 is expected to double gas transportation capacity per year to 110 billion cubic meters when put into operation. However, this pipeline has never operated because it has not been approved by Germany.

The existence of Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 means Gazprom can transport Russian gas directly to Europe’s pipeline system without using existing pipelines running through Ukraine and Poland .

However, 3 lines of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines exploded on September 27, 2022. The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office has initiated a criminal prosecution of an act of international terrorism related to this incident.
