Five horses belonging to the British Royal Cavalry ran away while practicing to prepare for the upcoming parade near Buckingham Palace, London, England, on April 24. The horses appeared to be frightened by the noise at a construction site in nearby Belgravia, so they jumped up and ran away.
Four cavalrymen were thrown from their horses and three of them had to be hospitalized for injuries, but they were not serious. The horses then raced through the streets of central London, hitting many vehicles and surprising passersby. Many witnesses saw a horse hit a taxi waiting for passengers outside the nearby Clermont hotel, shattering the car’s window. Another crashed into a tour bus, shattering the front window.
A cyclist was injured. The horses were quickly captured and taken back to the barracks in Hyde Park for examination.
