Ukraine said Russia launched an Iskander missile attack, wanting to tighten sanctions on Moscow

According to Reuters news agency, sharing on Telegram today (April 25), Mr. Ihor Taburets, Governor of the Cherkasy region, said that the explosion and fragments of the Russian missile damaged 47 private houses, and broke window of an apartment building.

He added that Ukraine’s air defense forces shot down the aerial target, and emergency services were working at the scene.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Illya Yevlash shared that the Russian attack targeted civil infrastructure and railways in the city of Smila in the Cherkasy region. Based on preliminary information, a Russian Iskander-K missile was used in the attack.

Previously, Ukraine’s national railway company Ukrzaliznytsia also said that Russia destroyed railway infrastructure in its attack on the Dnipro area on April 19.

Mr. Zelensky wants to tighten sanctions on Russia

Today (April 25), Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he met British Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt in the capital Kiev. The Ukrainian leader also called for tightening sanctions against Russia.

Sharing on Telegram, Mr. Zelensky expressed gratitude because Britain announced a new defense support package worth 500 million pounds ($625 million) for Ukraine this week.

“Particular attention needs to be paid to sanctions policy. It is important to expand restrictive measures against Russia, and eliminate the possibility of Moscow circumventing sanctions,” Mr. Zelensky said.

According to him, Minister Hunt will meet with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and other Ministers later today.
