Speaking before the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly on April 24, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko talked about Ukraine’s leaders believing that the country’s internal chaos was influenced by outside countries, mainly is Russia, followed by Belarus.

“They paint the image of us Russians and Belarusians as enemies, the culprits behind the difficulties and poverty of the Ukrainian people. You see, we are now suddenly partly to blame for their difficulties,” the Belarusian leader said.

Mr. Lukashenko said it was Ukraine’s leaders who were responsible for the prolonged unrest.

In another speech to the Belarusian National Assembly on the same day, April 24, President Lukashenko said that Ukraine is currently being exploited as a test battlefield, which can partly determine the future world order.

“The largest nuclear powers are still actually fighting on Ukrainian territory, even if only indirectly,” TASS news agency (Russia) quoted Mr. Lukashenko as saying.

In the latest revelation on April 25, President Lukashenko said that a group of Ukrainian army soldiers consisting of about 120,000 people was deployed near the Belarus border.

Currently, the Ukrainian side has not yet responded to President Lukashenko’s comments.

Belarus is closely linked to Russia

Unlike neighboring countries that separated from the former Soviet bloc, Belarus increasingly shows its close connection with Russia.

According to the newspaper Washington Postthe relationship between Russia and Belarus became even stronger after President Lukashenko allowed the Russian military to use Belarus as a place to set up Russia’s tactical nuclear weapons base.

Russia and Belarus showed even stronger bonds when Mr. Lukashenko personally mediated the agreement to help end the rebellion of the Wagner mercenary group at the end of June 2023.
