Referring to the organization of traffic on expressways and key national highways, Minister Nguyen Van Thang said that from recent implementation experiences, new expressways will overcome current shortcomings. now.

With the phenomenon of a series of vehicles burning and tires exploding on the highway, the Minister acknowledged that these are incidents with a high potential risk of causing traffic accidents, which can cause major consequences, so the authorities should quickly identify them. Determine the cause, share information with the people and transport business owners, thereby proactively taking preventive measures and being proactive in overcoming problems when incidents occur.

5 provinces have the number of deaths due to traffic accidents increased by more than 50%

Previously, reporting at the conference, Mr. Le Kim Thanh, Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, said that in the first quarter, there were 6,550 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 2,723 people. 5,246 people were injured.

Accordingly, the number of deaths from accidents decreased over the same period, but the number of accidents and injuries tended to increase.

There are 22 localities where the number of deaths due to traffic accidents increases compared to the same period in 2023. Of which 10 provinces increase by over 20%: Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Dien Bien, Quang Tri, Hung Yen, Ha Giang, Dong Thap, Thua Thien Hue, Lao Cai, Ca Mau. Five provinces with the number of deaths increasing by over 50% or more are Ha Giang, Dong Thap, Thua Thien Hue, Lao Cai, and Ca Mau.

Mr. Thanh also informed that there have been some particularly serious traffic accidents, killing and injuring many people, causing anger in public opinion.

Major General Nguyen Van Trung, Director of the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) added that in the first quarter, the national traffic police force inspected and handled more than 1 million cases of violation of road traffic order and safety, railways and inland waterways, fined 2,041 billion, revoked 206,468 driver’s licenses, impounded 373,545 vehicles of all types. Of these, there were 275,165 cases of alcohol concentration violations (accounting for 22.23% of violations).

Research on fines for violators of motorbikes

Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang assessed that currently, fines for cars have been done very well, but violations of motorbikes occur a lot. The Minister suggested that it is necessary to strengthen control and impose fines on this vehicle.
