“According to the crew list at departure, there were 5 people on the barge. By 10 a.m. the same day, the search force recovered 3 bodies, the remaining people are still missing,” Colonel Tran Tuan Anh said.

Accordingly, tugboat LA-06695 towed barge LA-06883 carrying stone from Ky Ha to Ly Son island district. When the barge reached the sea area about 3 nautical miles from Ly Son island, it sank.

Initially, the authorities determined that the barge was carrying heavy rocks and rough seas led to the incident.

Currently, the Border Guard force coordinates with Quang Ngai Maritime Port Authority to continue to carry out search and rescue activities. The bodies of the crew members in distress are being brought back to the mainland.

The tugboat in distress has an engine capacity of 350CV, belonging to Minh Linh Company Limited. The ship is responsible for carrying stones to construct breakwaters at Ben Dinh port in Ly Son island district.
